Setting drops

This procedure does not belong to the simple nesting workflow.

This procedure belongs to step 10 of the complete nesting workflow.

If you require drops on which you can place an object in the sinter oven, you can add them during nesting.

You can add and delete drops until you have set bars for the object.

  • Open the Nesting view for adjusting objects with the following icon in the main toolbar:

Setting drops in the nesting view for adjusting objects

Conical and cylindrical drops

Depending on whether you choose equal or different values for the diameter of the node and the end point, drops will become conical or cylindrical.

The diameter of the node must be larger than or equal to the diameter of the end point.

Conical drop

Conical drop

  1. End point (here: Ø 1.5 mm)
  2. Knot (here: Ø 1.8 mm)

Cylindrical drop

Cylindrical drop

  1. End point (here: Ø 1.8 mm)
  2. Knot (here: Ø 1.8 mm)

How to set drops

  1. (Optional) Select the desired object in the blank display.

    • DentalCAM highlights the object in the object list with a colored border.

  2. Open the editing functions for the required object by selecting the following icon in the left column:

    • The icon bar for the editing functions is displayed.

  3. Open the editing function for setting drops by selecting the following icon:

    • In the left column, DentalCAM displays icons and value bars for adjusting drops. In the blank display, the application shows the object in the 2D top view.
    • Setting drops: Icons and value bars

  4. To set a drop, select the following icon:
  5. (Optional) Use the D0 value bar to adjust the diameter of the end point (the part of the drop that the object will stand on in the sintering oven).
    • If the diameter of the end point is smaller than the diameter of the node (see next step), the drop will become conical instead of cylindrical.
    • The diameter of the node must be larger than or equal to the diameter of the end point. DentalCAM will adjust the value bars accordingly if required.
    • This setting only affects the next drop(s) that you will set.
  6. (Optional) Use the D1 value bar to adjust the diameter of the node (the starting point of the drop where it touches the object).
    • The diameter of the node cannot be smaller than the diameter of the end point.
    • The diameter of the node must be larger than or equal to the diameter of the end point. DentalCAM will adjust the value bars accordingly if required.
    • This setting only affects the next drop(s) that you will set.
  7. Recommendation: Manufacture only conical drops as they are easier for the machine to manufacture. The standard values are 1.5 mm for the diameter of the end point and 1.8 mm for the diameter of the node.

    • DentalCAM displays the current diameters in mm to the right of the value bars.
  8. In the blank display, select the position where you want to set a drop. Drops outside of objects are deleted during saving.
    • DentalCAM sets the drop onto the selected location. The drop is represented by a blue dot.
    • Setting a drop in the top view (position marked orange) and the result in the 3D view

  9. If you want to delete a drop, select the following icon and click on the desired drop: .
  10. If you want to set more drops, select the following icon: .
    • When you are finished with setting drops, your object could look like this:

A bridge with drops in the 2D top view

A bridge with drops in the 3D view
