Basic workflow

When you take a closer look at the workflow of dentalcam 9, you see that it is actually quite simple. It consists of 4 steps that guide you through the user interface of the program.

The steps are:

Specifically, the steps are as follows:

  1. Import your objects You import the 3D data for the objects from an external CAD application.

The import includes the following activities. among others:

    • Selecting files

    • Determining the indication (object type)

    • Assignment to a machine and, if applicable, selection of whether a disc or a block

  2. Create or select the virtual blank for the objects You add the selected objects to a new virtual blank or, in the case of discs, to an existing one.

This step includes the following activities, among others:

    • Specification of material properties

    • Entering data such as lot numbers and comments

    • For blocks: Assigning objects to the created blocks

  3. Nest your objects Nesting the objects in the blank is the main task in dentalcam.

Nesting includes the following activities, among others:

    • Positioning objects in the blank

    • Checking and correcting cavities and drill holes

    • Setting bars

    • Adding sinter bars and drops as needed

  4. Have dentalcam calculate your job As soon as your virtual blank is ready to be manufactured, dentalcam must calculate the optimal manufacturing strategy. dentalcam then forwards the job to dentalcnc, where you can manufacture it.

For job manufacturing, see the documentation for dentalcnc: Overview of job manufacturing
