Machining jobs

The following are the requirements for successful machining: You certainly don't have to check them before every job, but especially before executing your first job or when something isn't working as intended, it is a good idea to go through the list and check if everything is as it should be:

1. Check whether DentalCNC has established a connection to the machine To do this, check the machine status icon.

3. Make sure that your machine is fully operationalRefer to the machine documentation for instructions on how to install the machine and prepare for machining.

The DirectMill feature allows you to start machining a job while it is still being calculated. That's why jobs almost immediately display in DentalCNC after you started calculating them in DentalCAM.

If a job is still being calculated, DentalCNC displays the word CAM on the right side of the corresponding job list entry. The word functions like a progress bar– the green part indicates the already calculated data and the red part the data that needs yet to be calculated.

In cases of especially complex jobs, the machine may be able to process the blank faster than the computer can calculate the job. If this happens, DentalCNC pauses the machine until enough data has been calculated to resume machining. The application indicates this by displaying the following icon in the Machine control section:

	Not connected	DentalCNC couldn't find your machine. If the machine is properly installed, you may need to establish the connection.
	Connected	DentalCNC successfully established a connection to your machine.
	Working chamber door open	The working chamber door is open. For safety reasons, all operations that require the axes to move are not available. This icon only displays for machines with a manual working chamber door. For machines with an automatic door, see here.
	Machine is operating	The axes of the machine are moving. In most cases, it is machining a job.
	Job interruption	DentalCNC interrupted manufacturing because a parameter (e.g., the force of the incoming air pressure) is outside the permitted range. DentalCNC displays a message informing you about the incorrect parameter. Machining will continue as soon as the parameter is within the permitted range again.
	Machine waiting for data	In cases of especially complex jobs, the machine may be able to process the blank faster than the computer can calculate the job. If this happens, DentalCNC pauses the machine until enough data has been calculated to resume machining.
	Machine malfunction	A machine malfunction was recognized by the internal control unit in case of a critical event. DentalCNC displays the error message and error code that was sent by the control unit.

When tools are worn and you want to exchange them, you need to reset the remaining tool life in DentalCNC. You can do this by simply selecting an icon. There is no need to remove the tool and reactivate it.

1. To reset the tool life, select the following icon on the desired tool card in the tool magazine:

4. Open the working chamber door.
5. If there is a tool in the collet chuck of the spindle, hold it in place.


 

6. Confirm the current message.
• The collet chuck opens.
7. If present, remove the tool from the collet chuck.
8. Insert the tool into the collet chuck and hold it in place. Be sure to insert the tool until the tool ring reaches the tip of the collet chuck.


 

9. Confirm the current message.

• The collet chuck closes. You can release the tool.

10. If your machine is equipped with a manual working chamber door, close the door.
11. Confirm the current message.
• The following happens:
  1. If your machine is equipped with an automatic working chamber door, the door automatically closes.
  2. The spindle deposits the tool in the tool magazine.

• To move the axes of your machine into the default position, select the following icon:

While the axes are in the default position, you can carry out standard tasks such as:

• Mounting blanks into the blank holder
• Inserting or removing tools

• If the working chamber door of your machine can open or close automatically, select the following icon to open or close it:
• The door opens or closes. The icon changes color to indicate the new state of the working chamber door.

• If your machine has a door, flap or drawer below the working chamber that can open or close automatically, select the following icon to open or close it:

• If your machine can automatically open or close the blank holder, select the following icon to open or close the blank holder: or

The cleaning position enables you to more easily clean your machine.

• To move the axes (especially the spindle) of your machine into the cleaning position, select the following icon:

Removing and cleaning the collet chuck is an essential part of machine maintenance. Sometimes, it may also be necessary to manually remove a tool from the collet chuck. In both cases, you need to open the collet chuck.

1. Close the working chamber door.
2. Select the following icon:

Never assign multiple jobs with different IDs to the same blank magazine Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading. slot. If you do, the machine will execute all assigned jobs using the same blank and destroy it in the process. In addition, tools may break.

5. Insert all required tools into the tool magazine in your machine. Make sure that the positions of the tools in your machine match the corresponding positions in the virtual tool magazine.

NOTICE! If the positions of the tools in the tool magazine do not match the tool positions in the virtual tool magazine in DentalCNC, the machine will use the wrong tools and machining will fail.

6. You may want to check the additional job details in the Job details section:
   • Machining time: The prospective time in hours and minutes (hh:mm) that it will take until the job is finished.
   • The icon for wet machiningIf the job needs to be wet machined, the following icon will be displayed in blue: 
   • Date and time the job was calculated.

7. Open the working chamber door.
8. Mount the blank for the job into the working chamber of the machine.

9. Mount the blank for the job into the blank magazine slot that you just assigned.
10. If you want to machine additional jobs, repeat steps 1–10 until you have prepared all desired jobs.
11. Deactivate all jobs that you do not want to machineSelect the remaining jobs in the job list one by one and for each job make sure that the following icon is displayed in black in the Job details area:

12. Adjust the machining sequence by moving the entries on the job list up and down. For this, click on the arrows at the right border of each entry. The jobs will be machined from top to bottom.

13. To start machining, select the following icon:

Imagine the following:

1. You created a job in DentalCAM, but for one reason or another you nested fewer objects than possible in your blank.
2. You calculated the job.
3. Without manufacturing the job, you added additional objects to the blank and calculated it again.
4. Maybe you did this several more times.
• You now have multiple jobs in the job list in DentalCNC for the same blank. As they are all based on the same original blank, they all have the same blank ID.

You could now machine each job individually, which would require you to wait for the machine to finish a job and then manually start the next one. However, there is a better way: The MultiJob feature allows you to run all jobs in a row without your intervention. If you use a machine with a blank changer Machine component which stores multiple blanks in a magazine and which can automatically load them into the working chamber.. When using the search, use a blank changer or a blank magazine instead, you can even combine the function with other jobs in the same manufacturing session.

Using the Multijob function without a blank changer

The following instructions do not apply to machines with a blank changer Machine component which stores multiple blanks in a magazine and which can automatically load them into the working chamber.. When using the search, use a blank changer or a blank magazine instead even if you can directly mount a blank into the working chamber.

Following are the instructions for manufacturing multiple jobs with the same ID using the same blank.

1. Make sure that the MultiJob function is activated
2. Follow the standard workflow for manufacturing a single blank without a blank changer. While doing so, select any of the corresponding jobs with the same ID (it doesn't matter which one).
3. Instead of starting the manufacturing process with the standard icon, select the following icon:

Following are the instructions for manufacturing multiple jobs with the same ID using the same blank.

1. Make sure that the MultiJob function is activated
2. Follow the standard workflow for manufacturing multiple jobs using a blank changer. While doing so, assign all jobs with the same ID to the same blank magazine Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading. slot.

If you have aborted machining of a job, you can resume or restart the job as follows:

You can abort machining as follows:

1. Select the depicted icon.
2. Confirm the current message.

1. Machining stops immediately.
2. You are prompted to select whether the tool in the spindle can be inserted safely into the tool magazine.
3. If you want the machine to automatically put the tool into the tool magazine, confirm the dialog. If you want to remove the tool manually from the collet chuck, answer the question in the negative.

Removing the tool manually is necessary in case that putting it into the tool magazine would damage the tool magazine inserts.

• Depending on your choice, the spindle either puts the tool into the tool magazine or moves into the tool change position. In the latter case, continue with the next step.
CAUTION
Risk of injury through fast ejected tools
As soon as the collet chuck opens, any tool in the collet chuck may be ejected into the working chamber very fast if you do not hold in place. The fast ejected tool may hit and injure you.
• Before the collet chuck opens and as long as the collet chuck is open, hold the tool in place by its shank.
CAUTION
Danger of cuts and burns when touching tools with your bare hands
If you handle tools on the cutting surface, you may be injured. As the tool may be very hot, you may also suffer from skin burns.
• Only touch tools at their shank.
• When handling tools, wear protective gloves.

4. CAUTION!Wear gloves.

5. Open the working chamber door.

6. Hold the tool in the collet chuck in place.



 

7. Confirm the current message.
• The collet chuck opens.
8. Remove the tool from the collet chuck.

   

    

9. If your machine is equipped with a manual working chamber door, close the door.
10. Close the working chamber door.
11. Confirm the current message.
• The following happens:
1. The collet chuck closes.
2. If your machine is equipped with an automatic working chamber door, the door automatically closes.
3. The spindle moves to its default position.

You can resume or restart the job at any time.

If you have forced a manual tool change for at least 1 tool magazine position, you need to manually insert the corresponding tools into the collet chuck.

• DentalCNC prompts you to insert the tool as soon as it is required to continue machining.
• If your machine is equipped with an automatic working chamber door, the door automatically opens.

1. Have the required tool readily available. Compare the match code which DentalCNC displays to the match code of the tool.
2. If your machine is equipped with a manual working chamber door, open the door.
3. Insert the tool into the collet chuck and hold it in place. Be sure to insert the tool until the tool ring reaches the tip of the collet chuck.


 

4. Confirm the current message.

• The collet chuck closes. You can release the tool.

5. If your machine is equipped with a manual working chamber door, close the door.
6. Confirm the current message.
• The following happens:
1. If your machine is equipped with an automatic working chamber door, the door automatically closes.
2. Machining continues.

If you have activated the Manually check cavities during machining option in the DentalCAM settings for the current blank type, DentalCNC will interrupt machining after every cavity, turn the blank so that you can visually inspect the cavity and open the following window:
