The spindle cooling of R5 machines has been deactivated

As long term tests have shown, the spindle cooling of R5 machines doesn’t provide benefit to the process reliability. This is due to the relatively low rotational speed that is used during dry milling.

Consequently, the spindle cooling has been deactivated. The main advantage of this change is that owners of R5 machines no longer need to use cooling liquid when they are only milling dry jobs.

You can now select VOCO Structur CAD-B from the Blank type drop-down list. These composite blocks are machined as follows:

Always dry on all other aforementioned machines.

Upcera Hyramic blocks added for the S1 / S2 / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select Upcera Hyramic -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These hybrid ceramic blocks are machined wet.

Zirlux 16+ blocks added for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select Zirlux 16+ -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These zirconia blocks are machined as follows:

Wet on the N4 and Z4.
Always dry on all other aforementioned machines.

tioLogic abutment system added

You can mount these abutment blanks to the MEDENTIKA PreFace abutment holder.

On some computers, the automatic update required additional manual steps.

To increase the machining quality, we have optimized the machining parameters for IPS empress.

General machining optimizations

To increase the machining quality, multiple strategy and tool data optimizations have been applied.

New message after job processing on Z4 machines

After a job has been finished, Z4 machines write job data onto the internal CAM computer. During this time, the touchscreen doesn’t accept any input. To indicate that the machine is working as intended, a corresponding message now displays on the touchscreen.

The STL file type is now correctly named in the STL import view

In the STL import view, the name for STL files has been changed from Stereolithografie to Standard Tesselation Language.

Overlapping workspaces are activated again for cobalt-chromium blanks

You can overlap workspaces when editing cobalt-chromium blanks in the nesting view again.

We strongly recommend avoiding overlapping workspace when working with cobalt-chromium.  Milling cobalt chrome (CoCr)

Optimierte Bilder für Z4-Maschinen

The images for the Z4 touchscreen have been optimized so that they display faster.

The software and firmware update method of Z4 machines has changed

If a dentalcam & dentalcnc update was available, a corresponding message displayed on the touchscreen before every job start. As users could not cancel the message, some believed that the update would start right after confirmation.

The message has therefore been removed.

Instead, the machine will notify users of updates upon machine start.

As a consequence, dentalcam & dentalcnc will no longer be updated together with Windows® and the firmware.

dentalcam & dentalcnc can be updated by accessing the CAM computer and using the automatic update function of dentalcnc.
The firmware can be updated by accessing the CAM computer and using the firmware update function of dentalcnc.
Windows® updates can still be installed by confirming the corresponding dialog when shutting down the machine.

The dentalcam & dentalcnc update function has also changed.  Verbesserte Update-Funktion für dentalcam & dentalcnc

dentalcnc now always tries to detect the machine port number upon start of Z4 machines.

To avoid issues with frequently changing port numbers of Z4 machines, dentalcnc will from now on always try to detect the machine port number upon launch.

R5-Maschinen referenzieren jetzt immer

R5 machines will from now on always reference even if the axis position hasn’t changed. This increases the process reliability.

The rotational speed during the measurement of prefabricated abutments has been increased (R5)

The rotational speed of the spindle during the measurement of prefabricated abutments has been increased from 17,000 to 20,000. This increases the accuracy of the measurement.

Bug Fixes

dentalcam

Issues with incorrectly displayed and machined bars for rotated objects resolved

If you deleted bars for multi-unit objects, rotated the object by 45° on any axis and set new bars, it was possible that the new bars were incorrectly displayed and machined.

This behavior has been corrected.

Tools P250-F1-35 and P250-F1-40 could be used for zirconia discs

The tools P250-F1-35 and P250-F1-40 are designed for machining plastics. However, it was possible to activate them for certain zirconia discs.

This behavior has been corrected.

Incorrectly displayed bars sometimes caused machining issues

In some cases bars were incorrectly displayed within cavities.

This behavior has been corrected.

dentalcam will from now on ignore these bars during job calculation.

Email notifications work again

Email notifications didn’t work.

This behavior has been corrected.

The axes of K4 edition machines didn’t move into default position after a job was completed

As a consequence, it was not possible to remove a blank from the blank holder. You had to manually move the axes into default position via dentalcnc.

This behavior has been corrected.

dentalcnc failed to establish the connection to K5+ or R5 machines when using the Ethernet address of the corresponding machine.

This behavior has been corrected.

The working chamber remained locked when machines were switched on (K4 edition, N4, K5, K5+, S1, S2)

If no connection with dentalcnc was established, the working chamber of the aforementioned machines remained locked when the machines were switched on.

This behavior has been corrected.

You can again open the working chamber door of powered machines as long as the axes are not moving.

The calibration of R5 machines didn’t work when the calibration blank was mounted directly into the working chamber.

When you milled a calibration blank that was mounted into the working chamber, the window for confirming the measuring values didn’t display and dentalcnc closed unexpectedly.

This behavior has been corrected.

Calibration now works whether you mount the calibration blank into the working chamber or load it from the blank changer.

Incorrectly labeled entry in the maintenance section for Z4 machines

The entry for cleaning the collet chuck for Z4 machines was incorrectly labeled.

This behavior has been corrected.

New premium tools for composites available for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / N4 / K5 / K5+ / R5

The new diamond-coated single tooth cutters C200-R1D-35/40 and C100-R1D-35/40 have been specially developed for machining composites. You can use them instead of their double-tooth counterparts C200-R2-35/40 and C100-R2-35/40.

The C200-R1D-35/40 and C100-R1D-35/40 tools have the following advantages:

Diamond coating which results in a longer tool life. This means you can manufacture more objects per tool.
Lower temperature during machining similar to other single tooth cutters. Optimal for composites where a lower temperature is advantageous.

We recommend the following tools for this material:

e.max ZirCAD blocks added for K4 edition / S1 / S2 / N4 / K5 / K5+ / R5 / Z4

You can now select e.max ZirCAD -B from the Blank type drop-down list.

These zirconia blocks are available in 2 dimensions: C17 (17 mm length) and B45 (45 mm length).

There is a restriction for Z4 machines. See below.

When you use the B45 block in the Z4, there must be a minimum distance of 5 mm to the end of the block opposite of the mandril.

dentalcam will indicate a violation of this rule with the standard red flashes.

GC Initial LRF blocks added for the S1 / S2 / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select GC Initial LRF -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These glass ceramic blocks are machined wet.

Nacera Hybrid blocks added for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select Nacera Hybrid -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These hybrid ceramic blocks (50 % Nano-Glass, 50 % Polymer-Matrix) are machined as follows:

Wet by default on machines with wet machining capabilities. If you use one of the following machines, you can change the machining mode for this type of blank to dry machining: S1, S2, R5
Always dry on all other aforementioned machines.

Nacera Hybrid discs added for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / R5

You can now select Nacera Hybrid -D from the Blank type drop-down list. These hybrid ceramic discs (50 % Nano-Glass, 50 % Polymer-Matrix) are machined as follows:

Thommen Medical titanium abutments added for use with the MEDENTIKA PreFace holder

If your machine supports the MEDENTIKA PreFace holder, you can now use prefabricated titanium abutments from Thommen Medical.

S1 / S2: Titanium machining requires a wet grinding module and a flow sensor.

To use these abutment blanks in dentalcam, select MEDENTIKA PreFace -Ti from the Blank type drop-down list.

Sinter cobalt-chromium discs added for the 4-02 / K3 / K4 / K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / R5

Sinter cobalt-chromium is softer (wax-like) than standard cobalt-chromium which makes it easier to process. However, it needs to be sintered after machining for multiple hours in a sinter oven under inert gas. Sinter cobalt-chromium is machined dry.

To use the new material type, select Sinter CoCr -D from the Blank type drop-down list.

sweden & martina preface cobalt-chromium abutments added for the S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / R5

You can now select sweden-martina PreFace -CoCr from the Blank type drop-down list. These abutments are machined dry.

These abutments are mounted directly to the block holder of your machine.

sweden & martina preface titanium abutments added for the S1 / S2 / N4 / R5 / Z4

S1 / S2: Titanium machining requires a wet grinding module and a flow sensor.

You can now select sweden-martina PreFace -Ti from the Blank type drop-down list. These abutments are machined wet.

These abutments are mounted directly to the block holder of your machine.

Telio CAD blocks added for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select Teloi CAD -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These cross-linked PMMA blocks are machined as follows:

Wet on the N4 and Z4.
Always dry on all other aforementioned machines.

Tetric blocks added for the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / K5 / K5+ / N4 / R5 / Z4

You can now select Tetric -B from the Blank type drop-down list. These composite blocks are machined as follows:

Wet by default on machines with wet machining capabilities. If you use one of the following machines, you can change the machining mode for this type of blank to dry machining: S1, S2, R5

Before machining titanium discs, you need to update the machine firmware to version 10.86.032. Otherwise, processing titanium will fail. The firmware version is included in 7.06.

Update the firmware directly after updating to dentalcnc Version 7.06.

You can now select Titanium -D from the Blank type drop-down list:

Titanium discs are machined wet.

When machining titanium blanks: Add the cooling lubricant Tec Liquid Pro to the cooling liquid. The mixing ratio is indicated on the bottle label. Determine the pH value of the cooling liquid.  Release notes history (Version 7)

VOCO grandio discs: Dry milling now possible with the K4 edition / S1 / S2 / R5 / K5 / K5+

These composite discs can now also be milled dry:

For dry milling, select VOCO grandio disc milling -D from the Blank type drop-down list. The following tools are required for this:

C100-R1D-30/40

For grinding, select VOCO grandio disc grinding -D from the Blank type drop-down list.

If you select this option, the discs will be machined as follows:

We have made several changes which should improve the processing on R5 machines. The most important ones are:

The number of blocks that you can process via the blank changer without exchanging the cooling liquid has been greatly increased.
The stability of the block holder during machining has been improved.
The automatic cleaning and drying function has been optimized.
Causes for machine malfunctions E34 and E61 have been eliminated.

GC Cerasmart blocks can now be machined without cooling liquid

The blank type GC Cerasmart -B can now be machined dry. Wet machining is still possible.

New supported abutment blanks have been added to the databases for Medentika, Denracle and DESS holders

This allows you to use more abutment blanks with the mentioned holders.

We provide a list with the abutments that can be mounted to these holders.

New size for Ambarino High-Class blocks added

The new size C-Blocks AHC14 with a height of 14 mm has been added for the block type Ambarino High-Class -B. You select it from the drop-down list Dimensions.

Opening the application settings is now much faster

We optimized the code structure so that opening the application settings is now almost instant.

Clicking on cavities in the blank display will now mark them in the cavity list

Identifying individual cavities has been simplified: While you are editing cavities, you can now click on a highlighted cavity in the blank display and dentalcam will outline the corresponding entry in the cavity list.

For this to work, you have to save the marked cavities and re-open the editing function for marking cavities.

Visual representation of mounting devices in the nesting view has been optimized

The 3D data used in the nesting view for disc holders, block holders and abutment holders have been optimized for performance.

Quality improvements when grinding telescopic crowns (CoCr)

We have further improved the accuracy when manufacturing telescopic crowns.

CAM internal (“virtual”) geometry of the U060–R2–40/35 tools improved

Improving the CAM-internal geometry of the U060-R2-35/40 tools allows for a broader range of application in dentalcam.

Maintenance section supports all current machine models

The Maintenance section can now display maintenance tasks for all current machine models. Before Version 7.06, only the Z4 and N4 were supported.

When manually checking cavities, the working chamber lighting will be changed to white

When dentalcnc interrupts machining so that you can visually inspect cavities of the objects, the working chamber lighting of machines with color LEDs will from now on be switched to white. This will make a proper visual inspection easier.

(Z4) Moving the spindle into the position for installing the transport lock

You can now move the spindle of Z4 machines into a suitable position for installing the transport lock. [Read more]

This function is also available for R5 machines.

(R5) New icon for automatically drying the working chamber

The icon in the Machining view in dentalcnc for automatically drying the working chamber has been changed to the following:

(Z4) You can now adjust the sensitivity of the touchscreen (SL1 or higher)

The import of 3Shape.cam files works again

If you tried to import .cam files in the import view, you received an error message (ID = 3 Not Found)

This behavior has been corrected.

(Z4) Job didn’t get transferred to machine when using exocad ChairsideCAD

Under rare circumstances, a job that you exported with exocad ChairsideCAD wasn’t transferred to the machine and therefore couldn’t be machined.

This behavior has been corrected.

The footnotes in the material list didn’t show properly

The footnotes in the view for customizing the material list were not displayed correctly. As a result, the required extra equipment for some blank types was not listed.

This behavior has been corrected.

(K4 & K4 edition) Milling test and calibration specimens works again

Due to a bug in the post processor, milling test and calibration specimens on the K4 and K4 edition was not possible.

This behavior has been corrected.

dentalcnc window no longer freezes during machining

It was possible that the dentalcnc window would freeze during machining and no longer accepted any user input.

This behavior has been corrected.

Known Issues

The function is currently not working

If you activate the Interval for automatic tool breakage monitoring setting in dentalcnc, the machine will not check tools for breakage during machining

We plan to correct this behavior in a future release.

(N4) Abutment system from DENRACLE is now supported

Prefabricated titanium abutments from DENRACLE can now be processed wet with the N4. Simply obtain the corresponding abutment holder from the manufacturer and mount it to the N4.

(S1,S2,K5) DESS Pre-milled abutment system is now supported

You can now use the DESS abutment holder for prefabricated titanium and CoCr abutments to process them with the following machines:

We improved the calculating engine to make the calculation of prefabricated abutments even faster.

New maintenance section for monitoring maintenance intervals

Keeping track of all maintenance tasks for your machine and their corresponding due dates can be a bit tedious. That’s why we implemented a maintenance section into which does the job for you. The maintenance section allows you to do the following:

See when the individual maintenance tasks are due
Mark them as complete to keep the list up to date
Access online guides to help you with the tasks
Execute necessary machine functions for individual tasks

The maintenance section is currently available for the following machine types: Z4, N4. We plan to add support for new machine types in future releases. [Read more]

New blanks for the ® abutment system supported

We added new abutment blanks for the ® abutment system to our database.

New engine driver version 2.12.28 available

The new engine driver Version 2.12.28 is now integrated in the installation package.

We strongly recommend that you install it by selecting Install engine driver in the setup program when updating.

New supported blank types

The blank type VITABLOCS® Mark II is now also available in dimensions of 40/19. Must be machined wet.

VOCO Grandio disc Can be machined wet and dry.
CAMLOG® and Medentika® prefabricated abutments are now available in all common dimensions.

The tool usage sequence and the machining sequence are now blank type specific

You can now specify the Tool usage sequence and the Machining sequence for every individual blank type. For this, they have been moved from the General machining parameters to the Machining parameters for different blank types.

This change allows you to predefine your preferred tool usage sequence and machining sequence for each blank type. It saves you having to manually select the desired option for the next job.

These 2 options have been moved

Blank type names now contain the information whether they designate a disc, block or prefabricated abutment

Blank type names now contain a letter at the end which tells you whether the blank type is a block, a disc or a prefabricated abutment:

D stands for discs
B stands for blocks
CoCr stand for prefabricated abutments made of cobalt-chromium
Ti stands for prefabricated abutments made of titanium

This is especially useful to distinguish between blank types which are available as discs and blocks.

New drop-down list for blank types in the filter section of blank archive

If you want to filter the blanks in your blank archive by the blank type, you can now use a drop-down list to select the desired blank type. You can still type in the blank type into the corresponding input field.

Job IDs can now be based on the creation date

Objects can now be rotated by 90° by holding down the Shift key

Until now, you could only rotate objects by 90° in the nesting view by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the Left arrow key or Right arrow key. You can now also do this by holding down Shift plus the desired arrow key. This makes using this function much more convenient on computers without a right Ctrl key.

If you prefer, you can still use the Ctrl key. [Read more]

Increased width for root folder names

From now on, more characters of the root folder will be shown in the Import view before the text is cut off.

New dialog to remove tools manually from the spindle when you abort jobs

When you abort a job, dentalcnc will now ask you whether the tool in the collet chuck can be inserted safely into the tool magazine. By answering in the negative, you can manually remove the tool in case that putting it into the tool magazine would damage the tool magazine inserts. [Read more]

Suction unit is switched off after a tool breakage

If the machine controls your suction unit, dentalcnc will from now on switch off the suction unit when the application recognizes a tool breakage. This prevents the suction unit from running unnecessarily for a longer period of time e. g. when a tool breaks while machining multiple blanks in 1 session with a blank changer.

Rotation values for the X-axis were reset when saving the values a second time

When you used the editing function for moving and rotating objects to rotate an object about the X-axis, the specified value was saved after you confirmed your changes. However, when you opened the editing function and saved the values a second time, the rotational value for the X-axis was reset to 0.

Flat cutters U050-F2-35 / U050-F2-40 were not used as an optional tool

The tools U050-F2-35 / U050-F2-40 were not used when activated as optional tools.

Improved strategy for model plates

The accuracy of fit of the bottom side has been improved by optimizing the milling path of the 1 mm tool. In addition, the 2.5 mm flat cutter (P250-F1-35 / P250-F1-40) is no longer required for this indication.

dentalcnc can now automatically import external CAM data from a specific folder

Until now, it was only possible to import jobs from external CAM applications one by one.

Calculation error that occurred with inlays / onlays

The calculation error affected the cavity side of inlays and onlays when the U060-R2-35 and U060-R2-40 radius cutters were used.

Calculation error that occurred with sinter bars

The calculation error affected closed sinter bars with a milled out inner surface that were attached to smaller objects. Read more about working with sinter bars.

Roughing improved

An error in the kernel has been corrected.

The following blank types are now available:

Katana™ Is milled dry with tools for zirconia.
Fiber Composite Available for the S1, S2, K4 edition, K4, K5. Milled dry using tools for composites.
CAMLOG® CAM titanium blanks If you use the Medentika® PreFace® abutment holder with your S1, S2 and N4, you can now machine these prefabricated abutments with tools for CoCr. Note that your S1 and S2 machine must be equipped with a flow sensor and wet grinding module.

Zeus abutment holder for prefabricated titanium abutments

If you use the MIT® abutment holder with your N4, you can now process prefabricated titanium abutments from the Zeus system using CoCr tools.

Bars can now also be reduced for grinding jobs

S1, S2, N4, Z4, K5: You can now add bars that will be reduced to blanks when nesting grinding jobs. This should reduce extra manual work. Read more about setting bars.

Better job calculation thanks to multi-core support

Most modern processors have multiple cores to do multiple calculations at the same time. dentalcam now uses multiple cores to optimize job calculations. This leads to a more precise job calculation. You don't have to do anything to use this function as it is activated by default.

M200-R4-32-C and M200-R4-35-C: Special tools for grinding secondary crowns

You can now use the tools M200-R4-32-C and M200-R4-35-C as designated tools for grinding cavities in secondary crowns. To use this function, you need to add a second copy of the corresponding tool to the tool magazine in your machine. To ensure that dentalcnc can differentiate between the 2 tool usages, each tool received an additional match code for the new usage:

M200-R4-32-C (used with 4-axis machines)
M200-R4-35-C (used with 5-axis machines)

You need to select these match codes in dentalcnc when you add tools that are used for grinding cavities in secondary crowns. Geometrically, the 2 versions are identical.

You can activate the tools as follows:

Open the dentalcam application settings.
In the Machining view, select CoCr in the list on the left side.
From the icon bar in the upper middle of the window, select the icon for cavities.
Activate the Use designated finishing tool for secondary crowns option.

In dentalcnc, add the M200-R4-32-C or M200-R4-35-C tool to the virtual tool magazine.
Add the physical tool to the tool magazine in your machine. Make sure to use the same position that you assigned the virtual tool to.

Shofu discs are now milled dry

Shofu discs were ground wet up to the last version. From now on, they are milled dry, which increases the range of machines that can process them.

The icon for importing archives from version 6 has changed. It now looks like this:

The Z4 uses an Ethernet network port for data transfer instead of a USB port. This requires you to enter the machine's Ethernet address in dentalcnc. [Read more]

Changed: User interface elements to select the webcam(s) of the machine

In 7.01 we introduced interface elements in dentalcnc to set up the webcam in our new Z4 machine. These options have been moved to the Machine data view.

dentalcnc can now launch at Windows start up

You can now configure dentalcnc to launch when you start your CAM computer. [Read more]

Firmware 10.85 available

S1, S2, N4: dentalcnc contains the new firmware 10.85.

New reduced noise operation mode for grinding jobs

dentalcam: Application settings > Machining view > General machining parameters section.

If you want to reduce machining noise during grinding jobs, activate the Reduced noise operation for grinding jobs option.

If activated, it reduces the feed rate as well as the tool path distance for grinding jobs. This increases the machining time.

If your machine cannot grind objects, this setting has no effect.

Improved reference drive

The feed rate during the reference drive has been decreased to reduce machine wear.

PMMA multilayer blanks can now be imported from dentalcam 6

PMMA multilayer blanks will be imported as standard PMMA blanks because the PMMA multilayer blank type doesn't exist in dentalcam 7.

The residual material display should now work with all integrated graphic chipsets

On some computers with an integrated graphic chipset, the residual material display didn't work.

Error message “Path not found” when trying to set drops

Sometimes you received an error message when you selected the icon for setting drops.

It was possible to position drops in regions without objects

When setting drops, users were able to set drops outside of objects. From now on, drops which are positioned outside of objects will be deleted when saving the object.

Drops placed outside of the object

It is no longer possible to deactivate both STL import methods

It was possible to deactivate the automatic and the manual STL import method, which resulted in the user not being able to import STL files at all. From now on, when an import method is deactivated in the general application settings, dentalcam automatically activates the other option.

Blank height optimization

The maximum angle of attack has been reduced as it was possible for it to exceed the maximum possible angle of the machine mechanics.

Firmware update: The automatic scanning of prefabricated abutments works again on all machines

The automatic probing of prefabricated abutments didn't work on all machines. Now it works again on all machines that support prefabricated abutments

K5: The multijob function has been re-enabled

The icon for the Multijob function didn't display for the K5.

Nesting in 3D with new editing features

Until now, the nesting world of dentalcam was only two dimensional. From now on, the application will allow you to work directly with your 3D objects. This will enable you to adjust them with far more freedom and greater precision. [Read more]

Change the original orientation of the STL object

If the original orientation of an STL object is not appropriate for manufacturing, you can now rotate the object directly in dentalcam. [Read more]

Work with angled drillings

dentalcam now allows you to work with angled drillings. Simply import the corresponding objects as usual and then use the editing function for drillings to mark the drilling ranges. [Read more]

Blank type list is now customizable

Over the years, we have added more and more blank types, resulting in an ever-growing list of blank types. As many users will hardly use every blank type that dentalcam supports and scrolling through the list became a bit inconvenient, we decided to create a customizable blank type list. [Read more]

dentalcnc can now check for a tool breakage in given intervals and continue with a backup tool

In the past, when a tool broke during a time-consuming machining step, this could result in the machine not properly machining for hours.

From now on, dentalcnc can check for a tool breakage at a user specified interval. You can activate the tool breakage monitoring and specify the interval in the general application settings of dentalcnc. If a tool breakage is detected, the application can continue manufacturing with a backup tool if available. [Read more]

Inspect and rework cavities during manufacturing

Need to machine cavities with extra high precision for certain jobs? Then you will be glad to hear that you can now inspect them during manufacturing and then use the machine to rework them until you are satisfied.

With dentalcnc 7, your jobs will be machined faster than ever

We have optimized some of our machining strategies, and as a result the corresponding objects will be machined faster than ever before with dentalcnc. Some of our testers reported a decrease of machining time of up to 50 %. Do more in less time!

Dongles are now a thing of the past

dentalcam & dentalcnc 7 no longer require a dongle to run. Instead, they are bound to the machine in which they were licensed. So – no more hassle with lost or defective dongles! Don't discard your dongle right away though! You might still need it for dentalcam 6. [Read more]
